RE Royalties is pleased to share that we have donated $25,000 to Vancouver General Hospital's (VGH) Future of Surgery program.
Giving back, in the form of volunteering, donating to charitable causes, or attending community-led charitable events, is an integral part of the culture at RE Royalties. We believe in using our strong business model to support organizations with a cause that resonates with us, and supporting the healthcare industry is particularly important right now.
VGH and UBC Hospital are centres of surgical excellence, caring for 60% of all adult trauma cases in British Columbia.
With 50% of surgical patients from outside Vancouver, over 30,000 surgeries are completed at VGH and UBC Hospital each year — saving and improving the lives of our loved ones.
However, operating rooms and other surgical spaces at VGH need upgrades to meet new operating standards and to meet the needs of patients across the province.
To ensure medical teams have the best environments to undertake their life-saving work, a $145 million transformation of the surgical facilities at VGH and UBC Hospital is under way. While Vancouver Coastal Health and the provincial government are funding the majority of the costs, the Future of Surgery campaign goal was set to raise $60 million to help transform surgical care in BC.
The Future of Surgery program aims to reduce surgical wait times, put ground-breaking technology in the hands of medical experts, and optimize recoveries so patients can return to their lives and loved ones faster. To enable this, 16 new state-of-the-art operating rooms and a 40 bed peri-operative suites are being built at VGH, while two surgical in-patient units at UBC Hospital have been revitalized in order to serve patients with more complex medical needs.
